Vietnam’s Cinema Department and multimedia broadcaster VTC signed a memorandum on distributing Vietnamese films on November 5, Tuoi Tre reported. The partners aim to make selected works available free of charge, starting with films made with public funding. They also plan to build a recognised online source with consistent credits.
Bringing existing films to new audiences
Cinema Department director Dang Tran Cuong said that many publicly funded films had been produced before a clear mechanism existed for bringing them to viewers. He described digital distribution of those films as a practical problem for the department. In his assessment, an official route would help audiences find the works and provide an alternative to piracy sites.
Deputy culture minister Ta Quang Dong said the accumulated collection had been used only to a limited extent. He presented wider access as a way for audiences to revisit periods of national history and development. Promotion of the existing collection is the starting point described at the signing.
Platforms and language access
The memorandum identifies channels operated by VTC. The initial plan includes YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Zalo and domestic streaming applications. The partners intend to identify the source consistently as they make films available through these channels.
Where rights permit, the two sides plan to add foreign-language subtitles or voiceover for overseas Vietnamese viewers and international audiences. The distribution schedule and selection of titles will follow as the agreement moves into implementation, with language versions dependent on the rights available for each work.
