Denis Villeneuve says the next James Bond film offers a substantial creative change after Dune: Part Three. Variety's October 15 report cited an Empire interview in which the director described wanting to complete his final Dune chapter with a demanding attitude towards the material rather than nostalgia.

Finishing one world before entering another

Villeneuve explained that returning to Arrakis was partly about maintaining the distance needed to judge the work critically. After spending years within that setting, he viewed Bond as a sufficiently different challenge to draw him towards a new project.

Those comments describe his professional motivation, rather than announce a filming start or release date for the next 007 adventure. His appointment as Bond director was revealed in June 2025.

Before Dune, his films included Prisoners, Sicario and Arrival. Dune's first instalment opened in 2021, followed by Part Two in 2024.

No official announcement of the next Bond actor

Speculation continues over Daniel Craig's successor. Although Gary Oldman has suggested that an actor has been selected, Variety reported that no official casting announcement has been made.

Dune: Part Three draws on Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah and continues Paul Atreides' story and the consequences of his power. Timothée Chalamet returns alongside Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Robert Pattinson and other cast members.

Zendaya also discussed Chani's pain and sense of betrayal in her Empire interview. The film is scheduled for December 2026, while further confirmed details about the Bond production and its leading actor remain to be announced.
