Fenerbahçe beat Valencia as Ortiz posts 15 EuroLeague Women assists

Fenerbahçe began their EuroLeague Women title defence with an 88-69 away win over Valencia. FIBA's opening-night review combined emphatic results with overtime drama. Mariona Ortiz supplied 15 assists in Zaragoza's narrow victory over Basket Landes, while Emlak Konut recorded their first Regular Season success.

Champions set the pace

Fenerbahçe took control with a 27-12 opening quarter, following their recent SuperCup Women triumph. Leila Lacan contributed 19 points and three assists for her new team. In Vilnius, Kibirkstis-TOKS beat Athinaikos 103-65, with Zoe Wadoux approaching a triple-double through 11 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. Nausia Woolfolk scored a game-high 20. The opening round was not yet complete: Galatasaray's meeting with Schio was scheduled for 15 October when the review appeared.

Individual performances stand out

Zaragoza overcame Basket Landes 76-75 after overtime. Ortiz's 15 assists sit at joint third within the modern statistical scope, rather than an outright all-time record. Merritt Hempe added 26 points and forced overtime with two free throws with two seconds left. Trinity San Antonio had 23 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals for Landes. In Istanbul, Emlak Konut defeated Lublin 85-61 behind Stephanie Mavunga's 29 points, 11 rebounds and efficiency rating of 37. Pallas Kunaiyi added 13 points and 13 rebounds. These are distinct achievements in EuroLeague Women, not results from the separate EuroCup Women competition.
