Vietnam’s men’s futsal team travelled to Russia on 6 November after completing two friendlies in Kyrgyzstan, the Vietnam Football Federation said. Coach Diego Giustozzi’s side continue their international training trip with two games against Russia. SGGP said the team departed in the morning local time.
The VFF scheduled the matches for 8 and 10 November at the Meshchersky Sports & Recreation Complex in Nizhny Novgorod. Its announcement did not specify kickoff times.
The Kyrgyzstan leg
Vietnam played the hosts twice in Bishkek before moving on. SGGP reported a 2-1 defeat in the first game and a 2-2 draw in the return on the evening of 5 November Vietnam time. Those scores belong to the Kyrgyzstan matches; the two games in Russia have yet to be played.
The VFF said the coaching staff are giving younger and new players opportunities during a period of squad transition. The friendlies provide matches in which to assess adaptation and tactical play against international opponents.
A familiar opponent
Russia were seventh and Vietnam 20th in the September 2026 FIFA men’s futsal rankings cited by the VFF. Russia finished runners-up at the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup, reached the quarter-finals in 2021 and won the European championship in 1999.
The sides drew 2-2 at the Continental Futsal Championship in Thailand in August 2026. Russia went on to win that tournament and Vietnam finished second; that result refers to their previous meeting.
The VFF placed the Kyrgyzstan and Russia matches within Vietnam’s longer-term preparations, including the aim of competing for a place at the 2028 Futsal World Cup. The results of the upcoming fixtures remain unknown. See Vietnam national team fixtures.
