The Nga Nam composite-boat race scheduled for October 10 in Can Tho was called off after organisers found that safety preparations did not meet requirements. Bao Van Hoa, citing local information, reported that a resident of Ca Mau died in a boat accident on October 9 on a river section outside the planned course. The victim was not on the list of registered competitors, and the incident did not occur during official racing. The planned competition consequently did not take place.
