The number of cross-border QR payments made in Vietnam by visitors from Thailand, Laos and Cambodia in the first eight months of 2026 was eight times the year-earlier level, according to NAPAS figures cited by the Government News site at a September 25 seminar. The value of those transactions was six times as high. These are transaction measures, not counts of visitors.

State Bank of Vietnam deputy governor Phạm Tiến Dũng said expanded connections must be matched by security and wider acceptance. The report said Vietnam had more than 2.5 million payment acceptance points, but only about 154,000 accepted cross-border payments.
