HAGL eliminated from National Cup by second-tier Hưng Yên
HAGL fell 2–3 to second-tier Hưng Yên in the National Cup preliminary round on September 20 at Quy Nhơn, with all five goals coming after half-time. Joseph Khalio scored twice for Hưng Yên and Matheus twice for HAGL; Hưng Yên now face Ninh Bình in the last 16.

Hoàng Anh Gia Lai exited the National Cup preliminary round after a 3–2 loss to second-tier Hưng Yên on September 20. The match was moved to Quy Nhơn because of the deteriorating condition of Pleiku Stadium.
All five goals came after half-time. Joseph Khalio scored twice for Hưng Yên, while Matheus netted both HAGL goals. HAGL have lost their first three matches of the season, conceding ten goals. Hưng Yên advance to face Ninh Bình in the last 16.
