Ho Chi Minh City State Financial Investment Company has registered to sell its entire holding of more than eight million Eximbank shares, around 0.45% of the bank's capital. VnExpress reports a starting price of VND17,393 per share, valuing the block at nearly VND150 billion.
HFIC says the proposed disposal would recover capital for portfolio restructuring. It cites frequent changes in Eximbank's senior leadership as a difficulty in managing the investment effectively.
A holding dating from 2006
HFIC began buying EIB shares in 2006 at a cost of about VND10,312 each. It says it received no dividends in the latest two years because the bank had no distribution plan.
The starting price is about 8% above EIB's November 3 close of VND16,050. At that point the stock was down more than 24.6% from the year's start and Eximbank's market capitalisation was VND29,869 billion.
Other shareholders and bank results
Vietcombank holds around 4.51%. Gelex, listed as the bank's only major shareholder in the report, owns 10% and describes it as a long-term investment without involvement in management.
Eximbank was established in 1989. Nguyen Le Quoc Anh became board chairman in July 2026, after five chairmanship changes in four years.
The bank reported nine-month pre-tax profit of VND865 billion, down 58% year on year, with lower net interest income and higher provisions affecting results. The next stage for HFIC's investment is the transfer process under its registered disposal plan.
