Hoang Thuy Linh released the music video Thay dui on the evening of October 15, using a satirical fictional world to explore envy, gossip and manipulation. VnExpress described it as her new project three years after Mien dat hua, her collaboration with Den Vau.

A story built from folk imagery

Written by Khac Hung, the song takes inspiration from the figure of a troublemaker who encourages conflict between others for personal benefit. Linh and director Nhu Dang turn that premise into a chaotic imagined setting shaped by greed and rivalry.

Scenes reinterpret Vietnamese idioms about concealed wrongdoing, incitement and shifting blame. The visual narrative links those behaviours with their consequences rather than following a single conventional villain.

Linh appears in several forms, including a ceramic vase, a chicken on a roof and a figure inside a painting. The production draws on Mother Goddess worship and Vietnamese painting, with artist Mai Trung Thu among its references.

Familiar cultural materials, new arrangements

The arrangement combines rhythms associated with chau van singing and contemporary percussion. Birdsong, horns, bells, bamboo-pole percussion and everyday sounds add further layers to the musical setting.

In comments reported by VnExpress, Linh described an outlook centred on remaining calm, working conscientiously and treating others responsibly and with goodwill. That is the artistic message she associates with the release.

The video continues her established use of folk culture, prominent on the 2019 album Hoang and later work including Link. Her song See tinh inspired dance covers internationally, while her 2023 Vietnamese concert in Ho Chi Minh City attracted approximately 7,000 people, according to the report.
