Team confirmation and reported terms

Charlotte announced a multiyear contract extension for Brandon Miller before Monday's deadline. Basketball operations president Jeff Peterson confirmed the signing, while the Hornets said the terms were not disclosed under team policy. The five-year, $209 million description was reported by media and is separate from the details officially released by the club.

Charlotte selected Miller second overall in the 2023 draft. He has averaged 19 points across 166 career appearances, including 160 starts, while shooting 43.1% overall, 37.3% from three-point range and 86.3% at the foul line. He made the All-Rookie First Team and finished third in Rookie of the Year voting in 2023-24, earning three consecutive monthly rookie awards from January to March 2024.

Production before a larger role

Miller led the Hornets with 20.2 points per game in 65 appearances last season, all starts. He shot 43.5% from the field, 38.3% from three and 89.2% at the line, the ninth-best free-throw mark in the league.

He was one of 13 NBA players to average at least three made three-pointers. His run of games with multiple makes reached 22, breaking his own franchise record. He also led Charlotte with 18 games of at least 25 points and earned his first Eastern Conference Player of the Week award on February 1.

The report expects a larger scoring role following LaMelo Ball's trade to Minnesota. Charlotte opens at Brooklyn on Wednesday; that expected role remains a projection for the new season.
