Jennifer Connelly completed the New York City Marathon in 3:40:09 on November 1 while supporting Fred's Team, the fundraising programme of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. VnExpress reports that the 55-year-old actor improved her personal best from the same race in 2024.
Her previous time was 3:45:47, making the improvement five minutes and 38 seconds. She averaged about 5:13 per kilometre over the 42.195-kilometre course through New York's five boroughs.
Running for research
Fred's Team is named after marathon co-founder Fred Lebow, who was treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering. The programme uses distance running to support cancer research and clinical trials.
Connelly also supported the centre when she ran in 2024. Her latest participation continues that charitable connection alongside the faster finish.
VnExpress cites New York Road Runners as saying the race's overall charity-partner programme exceeded its $100 million target before race day, involving more than 670 organisations. That figure covers the programme as a whole.
Boston qualifying window
The Boston standard cited for women aged 55-59 is four hours or faster, a threshold Connelly's result meets.
Registration for Boston 2027, however, closed on September 18, before the New York race. The report places her new performance within the Boston 2028 qualifying period. Meeting a time standard is one stage in the registration process.
The 2026 race marks 50 years since the New York City Marathon expanded its route through all five boroughs, providing the setting for Connelly’s return to the same fundraising programme she supported in 2024.
