John Travolta will receive a lifetime achievement award at the 44th Torino Film Festival in Turin, Variety reports. The programme will also present his directorial debut, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, in its second international festival screening after Cannes in May.

A career across genres

The festival's tribute cites work ranging from Saturday Night Fever, Grease and Urban Cowboy to Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty, Face/Off and Hairspray. Artistic director Giulio Base praised the actor's influence on screen characters and wider popular style.

Torino focuses on young directors and independent cinema. This is the third edition under Base, providing a setting for audiences to encounter the directing debut of a longstanding performer.

The film's journey before Turin

Adapted from Travolta's 1997 children's book, Propeller One-Way Night Coach follows an aviation-loving boy, Jeff, and his mother on a fictional cross-country journey toward Hollywood.

The film premiered out of competition at Cannes and has streamed on Apple TV since May 29, according to the report.

The festival runs from November 24 through December 2. The film's golden-age aviation journey includes unexpected stopovers, striking fellow passengers and a glimpse of first class as Jeff travels towards Hollywood. Base's tribute places Travolta across generations and genres, connecting that new directing role with his long acting career. The screening and honour form part of the November 24–December 2 festival programme.
