Nikola Jokić became the second NBA player to reach 200 career triple-doubles, according to NBA.com’s November 3 statistical review. He recorded 21 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists against New Orleans to reach the milestone. At the review’s data cutoff, Russell Westbrook held the record with 209.
Frequency distinguishes the achievement
Jokić’s total came in 816 games, giving him a triple-double rate of 24.5%, approximately one in four appearances. NBA.com compared that with Oscar Robertson’s 181 in 1,040 games, Westbrook’s 209 in 1,301, Magic Johnson’s 138 in 906 and LeBron James’s 125 in 1,628.
Those corresponding rates were 17.4%, 16.1%, 15.2% and 7.7%. They describe the supplied historical sample rather than forecasting when the record will change. Jokić’s season totals rose through his first seven seasons, dipped for one, then reached 34 in each of two consecutive seasons.
What Denver’s results show
Across the 200 triple-doubles, Jokić averaged 25.8 points, 14.3 rebounds and 12 assists. More than a quarter included at least 30 points; eight reached at least 40 and two exceeded 50.
NBA.com reported a Denver winning percentage of 77% in his triple-double games, against 55.8% in the other games and 61% overall. That is an association, not proof of a single cause. New Orleans accounts for his highest opponent total, 16. The next numerical milestone is Westbrook’s 209, but the report does not establish when Jokić might equal or surpass it.
