Juan Carlos Ferrero will join Ben Shelton’s coaching team for the 2027 season, working alongside the American’s father Bryan. VnExpress reported that both confirmed the plan on 1 November and expected to begin during preseason preparations.

An addition to the existing team

Bryan Shelton has accompanied his son from the early stages of a career that developed from a US college championship into a place among the leading professionals. The announcement adds Ferrero rather than removing Bryan.

Shelton highlighted the Spaniard’s playing experience and work developing champions. In comments to Eurosport relayed by VnExpress, he said he wanted to learn from a former world No. 1. That describes his expectations, not an improvement already demonstrated through their work together.

The report credited Shelton’s 2026 campaign with four titles, including the Canadian Open in Montreal, and a first Grand Slam final at the US Open. He was ranked fourth, his highest position at that reporting point.

A new project for Ferrero

Ferrero won Roland Garros as a player in 2003. He later worked with Carlos Alcaraz for more than seven years, beginning when the Spaniard was 15. The article recorded six Grand Slam titles during that partnership before it ended in December 2025.

That background informs expectations for Shelton’s point construction and consistency in extended rallies alongside his powerful serve and forehand. Those are potential areas of work, rather than changes already confirmed.

The next milestone is the 2027 preseason, when Ferrero’s role can take practical shape with Bryan and Ben Shelton. The announcement does not place him courtside as Shelton’s coach at current 2026 tournaments.
