KinoFest 2026 will present contemporary German cinema across several Vietnamese cities, including Ilker Catak’s Berlin Golden Bear winner Yellow Letters. VnExpress reported a programme combining cinema screenings with outdoor presentations and separate schedules for each location.
Dates and admission arrangements
Hanoi screenings run November 5–8 at the National Cinema Centre, with tickets priced at VND 30,000. Ho Chi Minh City follows on November 11–16 at Galaxy Nguyen Du and the German Residence garden at 257 Hoang Van Thu. Cinema tickets cost VND 30,000, while the garden screenings are free.
Hai Phong’s proposed dates are November 21–22, with free admission and a venue still to be announced. Hue is scheduled for November 25–27, also free, with its venue pending. Da Nang is provisionally set for December 16–20 at Le Do cinema, without an admission charge.
Stories of choice and connection
Yellow Letters follows artists Derya and Aziz as unemployment and political upheaval reshape their lives and marriage. Opening film Rose explores a woman living under a male identity in the seventeenth century.
Ildiko Enyedi’s Silent Friend, featuring Tony Leung and Lea Seydoux, examines relationships between people and plants. The animated The Last Whale Singer offers younger viewers an ocean adventure involving friendship and courage.
Goethe Institute representative Thai Mai Lan said the selection seeks to reflect Germany’s social complexity and voices that are less often heard.
The next immediate milestone is Hanoi’s November 5 opening, followed by Ho Chi Minh City. Viewers should match individual films with their city’s schedule and follow updates for provisional dates or unannounced venues.
