Lai Ly Huynh reached eight points after five rounds of the Asian Individual Xiangqi Championship and stood third on tie-breaks, BongdaPlus reports. His fifth-round victory over Malaysia's Ly Quac Chuc kept him among the leaders. Huynh was level on points with Vuong Vu Bac and Phung Gia Tuan but behind them on Buchholz. A sixth-round meeting with Phung Gia Tuan would be important in the race for the final, with his position after five rounds not yet securing a place in the title match.
