Lexi Potter says she has not fully absorbed the significance of her senior England debut after a rapid return from international duty to Chelsea. The 20-year-old midfielder described the recent weeks as memorable and a source of pride.
She became England Women's legacy number 244 when selected against Greece in Leicester, adding an international milestone to her growing role at club level.
More opportunities at Chelsea
Potter has appeared in nine of Chelsea's first ten matches in all competitions this season, scoring once. Her 376 Women's Super League minutes place her behind only seven team-mates for time on the pitch.
She signed her first professional contract in 2023 at 17 and spent two successful seasons on loan at Crystal Palace. Her Chelsea debut came as a 72nd-minute substitute in a 4-0 win over Paris FC in October last season.
By March, she earned a first senior start at home to Brighton and scored in the 2-1 victory, rewarding Sonia Bompastor's selection.
Learning beside Walsh
Potter said Sarina Wiegman's call arrived unexpectedly while she was at home. She felt excited and grateful when the England opportunity became clear.
Her existing partnership with Keira Walsh provided a familiar connection in the senior national-team camp. Potter regards Walsh as an outstanding player to learn from in the number-six role and hopes to add elements of her team-mate's game to her own. She also wants their understanding to strengthen as they spend more time together on the pitch.
