Michael Douglas has confirmed that he once wanted Hank Pym's Marvel story to end, speaking on Happy Sad Confused on October 19 local time. He said he asked for that after the second Ant-Man film but was not permitted, while recalling the challenges of effects-heavy acting.

Green-screen work required adjustment

Douglas described performing against imagery that did not yet exist on set and only seeing the completed world when the film was finished. He found the process unexpectedly difficult, while praising Paul Rudd and the production team.

His comments revisit personal working experience. They do not announce a new Marvel decision to kill Hank Pym or confirm his withdrawal from a forthcoming project.

On The View in 2024, he had said he wanted a memorable death in 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, proposing an effects sequence in which the character shrank and exploded. The idea was not carried out as he wished.

A role spanning several productions

Douglas first played scientist Hank Pym in Ant-Man in 2015, returning in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Avengers: Endgame and Quantumania. He also voiced the character in episodes of What If…? between 2021 and 2023.

Born in 1944, Kirk Douglas's son began working in the mid-1960s and built acting and producing careers. Credits outside Marvel include Wall Street, The China Syndrome, Basic Instinct and Traffic. He has won two Oscars.

More recently, he has become selective and described prioritising adventures with family. That reflects his current preferences, while the Hank Pym remarks concern earlier films and proposals.
