State Bank of Vietnam deputy governor Nguyễn Ngọc Cảnh met a European business delegation on 6 November to discuss monetary policy, credit, payments and anti-money laundering. The central bank said it would study relevant recommendations as it develops policies within its remit.

Credit and economic stability

The EU–ASEAN Business Council and EuroCham Vietnam organised the delegation. Participants included EUABC vice-chair Sharon Toh and EuroCham vice-chair Jean-Jacques Bouflet. The central bank described the meeting as part of an annual dialogue between European businesses and Vietnamese regulators.

On sustainable finance, participants discussed green credit and ways to mobilise funding for industrial emissions-reduction projects. They also discussed credit for healthcare and agriculture and financing for major projects in Hanoi.

The central bank shared its approach to monetary policy amid global economic volatility. The delegation was interested in how the bank balances macroeconomic stability and inflation control with support for growth.

Financial transparency and digital currency

The anti-money laundering discussion covered the development of Vietnam’s framework in light of FATF and APG recommendations. Topics included the quality and independent verification of beneficial-ownership information, regular data updates and identifying indirect or cross-border ownership structures. Participants also discussed using international data to support checks on risky transactions.

On central bank digital currency, the bank shared information about its research and policy approach. Its account of the meeting did not announce a digital currency launch or a specific financing agreement.

Cảnh thanked the delegation for its contributions and said the bank would consider appropriate proposals. Studying recommendations is the next step described in the meeting report, not an announced policy change.
