Nguyen Ngoc Tram won women's individual kata gold at Vietnam's National Sports Games on November 4, defeating Bac Ninh's Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu. SGGP reports that the Public Security athlete successfully defended the title she first won at the 2022 Games.
She dedicated the medal to supporters, spectators and fellow karate competitors, while emphasising that further tasks remain in women's team kata.
Maintaining rhythm after the Asian Games
Tram said she focused on executing her techniques through each round. Initial nerves gave way to greater confidence as she progressed towards the title.
She returned from ASIAD 20 women's team kata gold more than a month earlier and continued training for the national competition. Her 2026 results also include individual and team golds at July's Southeast Asian championships.
Bui Ngoc Nhi and Hoang Thi Thu Uyen joined her in the Asian Games team success, providing international experience before the domestic assignment.
Team competition comes next
The Games' karate programme includes 390 athletes from 28 delegations competing for 25 medal sets across kata and kumite. Bao Van Hoa reports that competition began on November 4 at Tan Thuan ward arena in Ho Chi Minh City.
Kata includes men's and women's individual events plus men's, women's and mixed teams. Team routines require coordination alongside technical precision and control.
Public Security sports-centre director Pham Hong Tham praised Tram's form. Her next task is women's team kata, keeping her campaign active after the individual title defence.
