Noah Wyle has been named People's Sexiest Man Alive for 2026, the magazine announced on 27 October. It is the first time the 55-year-old has received the title, more than three decades after he started playing TV doctors on ER, Variety reported. He succeeds Wicked star Jonathan Bailey, the 2025 pick.
Disbelief, then teasing
Wyle told People he could hardly believe the news, according to Variety. “I thought that sounded like a prank — just not in a million years did I think that this would be an honor bestowed on me,” he said. He then joked: “I hope this changes everything. I hope it’s just wine and roses, milk and honey from here on out.” He admitted he expected plenty of ribbing from friends and family.
Vietnamese outlets added family detail. His wife, actress Sara Wells, 46, convinced him he deserved it, Tuoi Tre and VnExpress reported, and he joked that the result proved her good taste. According to VnExpress, his son Owen, 24, teased him about attracting haters, while he expects his daughter Auden, 21, to make fun of it for the next 50 years. Both are from his marriage to make-up artist Tracy Warbin. Wyle married Sara in 2014, and they have an 11-year-old daughter, Frances.
From Dr. Carter to Dr. Robby
Born in California in 1971, Wyle landed his first role in Blind Faith (1990) at 18 but then struggled, VnExpress said; citing IMDb, it added that he stepped away from acting for a time to work as a waiter. In 1994 he was cast as medical student and later doctor John Carter on NBC's ER, alongside George Clooney, Anthony Edwards, Sherry Stringfield and Julianna Margulies. In January, at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards, Clooney joked that the organization should do a “sexiest man still alive” issue, saying he “would nominate Noah Wyle as the first guy.”

In the 1990s, Wyle, Clooney, Eriq La Salle and Anthony Edwards shared the cover of a special issue on the sexy men of ER, Tuoi Tre recalled. More than 30 years later, The Pitt has put him back in the spotlight, and VnExpress said many viewers online have embraced Robby as their ideal boyfriend.
A title now in its 41st year
People launched Sexiest Man Alive in 1985 with Mel Gibson, and the title is now in its 41st year, Variety noted. Bailey, chosen in 2025, was the first openly gay man to receive it. Past winners include Patrick Dempsey, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, John Legend and Idris Elba, while Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, George Clooney and Richard Gere have each been honoured twice, according to VnExpress. People does not explain how it picks the winner; VnExpress said outlets including ABC News and Bustle report that it comes down to an internal vote.
Life off set, and what comes next
Tuoi Tre said the cover shoot took place in August at a clifftop house in Malibu, with Sara, Frances and the family's chocolate Labrador, Lily. Wyle makes breakfast for his wife and daughter, keeps a journal, does Pilates, walks the dog and reads; he is also the household's dishwasher and recommends the chore to other men as a way to unwind. He credits humour for a happy marriage, confesses to buying survival gear from Instagram ads, and hates being late, preferring to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early.
Next up is season 3 of The Pitt, set to premiere on HBO Max in January 2027. Wyle describes this stage of his career as a second lightning strike in his life, Tuoi Tre reported.
