Paul Bettany and Asha Banks will star in It’s Alright alongside Colin Firth and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Variety reports. Protagonist Pictures is launching international sales ahead of the American Film Market, with production planned for early 2027.

Music within a fictional family story

Bettany co-wrote the screenplay with director Scott Stewart, reuniting them after Legion and Priest. He plays fading pop star Peter Sayer, who poses as a music producer after encountering Georgie, the daughter who does not know he is her father.

The project contains original songs but is not described as a musical. Banks will write songs as well as perform, alongside Bettany and other artists. Marius de Vries, whose credits include La La Land, Moulin Rouge! and CODA, will produce the soundtrack for release through Universal Music.

A project still preparing for production

Raindog Films and Pacesetter Productions are producing, with Trish D Chetty, Ged Doherty and Jessica Rhoades named as producers. CAA Media Finance represents US rights while Protagonist handles the international launch.

In the story, Georgie is a 19-year-old aspiring singer-songwriter. Her creative partnership helps revive Peter's career until pressure from his industry backer forces a choice between commercial success and protecting their work together.

Protagonist's international sales launch and CAA Media Finance's US-rights work run alongside preparations for the early-2027 production start. Banks will bring both acting and songwriting to Georgie as Stewart and Bettany develop the music-centred family comedy.
