Phil Foden wants to earn an England recall through his Manchester City performances, The Guardian reported. He said there had been no further conversation with Thomas Tuchel since the World Cup, with the next squad still unannounced at the time of his comments.

Ambition rather than selection

Foden missed the summer World Cup and England's early-season Nations League matches. He described football's changes in fortune and said continued performances were his route towards another opportunity.

The 26-year-old felt refreshed after a break following his September dismissal against Manchester United. Sent off after 23 minutes of a 1-0 victory, he served a three-match ban that combined with the international window to keep him out for more than a month.

City need goals from more players

The Guardian credits Foden with four goals this season, including a hat-trick against AEK Athens. Haaland had 13 of City's 36 goals across competitions at that point. Rayan Cherki was the team's second-highest scorer with six, ahead of Foden in third.

Enzo Maresca said the team cannot rely on Haaland scoring every match. The 1-0 defeat to Brighton was their first goalless performance of the season.

Foden scored 27 times in 2023/24 and hopes regular appearances, positive confidence and good positioning can restore that contribution. His next task is to demonstrate it at club level, while an England return depends on Tuchel's actual selection decision.
