Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana received an early screening in Ho Chi Minh City on November 5, Tuoi Tre reported. The showing at Galaxy CineX Thiso Mall Sala preceded the planned nationwide opening on November 6. Singer Vo Ha Tram met viewers in her role as the film’s promotional ambassador in Vietnam.
The story presented at the preview
India’s consul general in Ho Chi Minh City, Vipra Pandey, attended with his wife, alongside representatives of the city’s friendship organisations. Tram spoke about family values she sees in both Vietnam and India. She said she hoped the film would introduce Vietnamese audiences to the epic and draw attention to its themes of loyalty and sacrifice.
The film follows Prince Rama and Sita through 14 years of exile and a confrontation with Ravana. Its source is one of India’s major epics, a work whose characters and conflicts have influenced art and culture in India and elsewhere in the region. The Vietnamese screening presented the story through the first instalment of a two-part film project.
The production and release plan
Tuoi Tre reported that Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman worked together on the music, their first collaboration on a film. DNEG handled visual effects. The instalment screened in Ho Chi Minh City runs 195 minutes, and the second part is planned for 2027. The Vietnam release schedule brings the first part to cinemas nationwide after the event introducing the film and its cultural setting to local viewers.
