Selena Gomez addressed changes to her speaking voice in an October 18 Instagram video, according to a report citing the Daily Mail. She said she previously used nicotine vapes heavily and believes that habit made her voice deeper and raspier. She says she has stopped and is working to maintain that decision.
Responding to comments about her voice
Her remarks followed criticism comparing her current speech with her Disney years. Gomez described quitting nicotine as difficult and encouraged fans not to begin vaping, drawing on her own experience.
Differences in tone and speaking pace have attracted online discussion for several years. During a December 2025 livestream, she had said her throat sometimes swelled internally. Her latest comments explicitly connect her former nicotine use with perceived vocal changes and express relief at stopping.
That connection is the singer's personal assessment. She did not disclose examination results or a clinical assessment establishing the extent or cause of the change.
Family hopes concern the future
At New York's Fast Company Innovation Festival, Gomez also expressed hope of having children and expanding her family with Benny Blanco. This was a future wish, not a pregnancy announcement.
Two years earlier, she told Vanity Fair that health problems prevented her from carrying a pregnancy as she had once expected. She described taking time to accept that situation while retaining the desire to become a mother.
Her public comments concern personal experiences and intentions. They should not be expanded into medical conclusions or additional claims about her present family circumstances.
