A record in the knockout competition
India's Sheetal Devi scored 149 out of a possible 150 in a women's compound last-16 match at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Japan, according to the report. Fourteen of her 15 arrows scored ten and the other scored nine, taking her past the 148-point world mark set by Britain's Jessica Stretton in 2019.
Devi faced Hong Kong's Chan Yuen Wah in that match. The report also records a subsequent 145-137 semifinal victory over Japan's Shinohara Aya, setting up a final against Singapore's Alim Nur Syahidah. It does not provide a verified result for that final.
Other milestones involved different formats. Devi scored 704 out of 720 over 72 arrows in individual qualifying, matching the world mark attributed to Oznur Cure Girdi. She and Toman Kumar also totalled 1,402 in mixed-team qualifying, above the previous 1,400 record. Those scores should not be combined with the 15-arrow knockout record.
A technique built around adaptation
Born without fully developed arms, Devi uses her feet, upper body, shoulder and jaw to operate the bow. She picks up and positions the arrow with her toes, holds the bow with her foot and activates an adapted release mechanism after drawing and aiming.
The technique depends on balance and repeatable movement as well as equipment. Coaches developed it after an initial prosthetic approach proved unsuitable, drawing inspiration from American archer Matt Stutzman. Devi's results reflect years of training and later adjustments to rules governing contact with the bow.
