Singapore has proposed exploring a United Nations framework convention on AI safety, according to a September 30 report from Vietnam's trade office in Singapore. Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan raised the initiative at the UN General Assembly in New York on September 26.
The proposal covers testing advanced AI systems, managing autonomy, retaining human oversight and sharing information on serious incidents. It also suggests an international mechanism to support standards and coordination. This remains a proposal for study, rather than a convention already adopted by the UN.
