Steven Soderbergh will help complete the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part II while Matt Reeves attends to a family matter, Variety reported. A studio statement said the filmmakers would work together with the cast and crew to fulfil Reeves's vision.
DC Studios said Soderbergh approached Reeves and had the studio's full support. The announcement did not describe Reeves as permanently replaced or entirely detached from the project.
Reeves remains involved
Reeves clarified on X that he would continue working on the production, although he would not be on set while principal photography concluded. Soderbergh said his aim was to create footage that would fit the material already shot so Reeves could complete the film.
Warner Bros. and DC Studios had announced a temporary production pause in early October while Reeves dealt with the family matter. The new report concerns arrangements for continuing work, without providing further private details.
Sequel remains in production
Robert Pattinson returns as Batman. Variety also listed Scarlett Johansson, Colin Farrell, Sebastian Stan, Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright among the cast. Oscar-winning Soderbergh is known for films including Traffic, Erin Brockovich and Ocean's Eleven.
The sequel was announced at CinemaCon in 2022 and has undergone several release changes. According to the report, its latest schedule moved to February 2028 after earlier October 2026 and October 2027 dates.
Those delays are background to the current development. Assistance during the final filming weeks does not establish that photography or post-production has already been completed or that another release date has been announced.
