Taylor Swift was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on the evening of Monday, 26 October (local time), becoming its youngest member at 36, Variety reported. The ceremony at the Music City Center in Nashville came two decades after the release of her debut album, Tuoi Tre noted, in the city where she started writing songs as a teenager.

“I was lucky enough to get a publishing deal with Sony Publishing when I was 14, and I just hit the ground running,” Swift told the audience, according to Variety. Praising the town she said raised her, she added: “There is no music community like this music community. I know. I checked all the communities.”

Inductees and tributes at the 56th gala

Swift joined Lyle Lovett, Bruce Channel, Shawn Camp, Lee Thomas Miller and the late J.I. Allison of Buddy Holly and the Crickets in this year's class. Country star George Strait received the Career Maker Award, which only one other artist had received before him. By tradition, inductees do not perform; another artist plays one of their songs instead. Variety listed the presenters and performers:

Crickets, a sponge and three words

Paisley, whom Swift opened for on a summer tour between her first and second albums, recalled how Nashville's songwriters marvelled at her as a teenager, especially when she wrote the Speak Now album entirely on her own. “It’s an amazing thing to watch her evolution from somebody who realized this all starts with a song,” he said.

Swift answered with a joke. “I’m really surprised to see you here, actually,” she said, “because we’ve been estranged since 2007.” She blamed a tour prank in which Paisley filled her bus with thousands of live crickets, before praising his introduction and declaring the feud over. She also thanked Lainey Wilson and plugged Wilson's new single, Kinda Love It.

She then built her speech around the three words in the honour's name. Songwriting, she said, was “what I centered my entire life around,” and fame “a byproduct of my love for music.” She credited early co-writing sessions, collaborator Liz Rose and Nathan Chapman, who played every instrument on her demos and later produced her first album, and noted that “as of a couple days ago, that album is 20 years old.” Tuoi Tre also reported her saying that she had been lucky to explore many genres and write with many people around the world, and that this flexibility came from the fundamentals she learned in Nashville.

Two halls of fame in four months

The Nashville honour arrived just four months after Swift was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York in June 2026. In 2022, the Nashville Songwriters Association International named her Songwriter-Artist of the Decade, according to Tuoi Tre. She attended the ceremony in a burgundy Raisa Vanessa minidress.

After the induction

For Swift, the night is one to keep. “It’s not lost on me how crazy this is. I will cherish it forever,” she said, describing the induction as one of those Nashville moments she expects to revisit on a rainy day. The honour also lands as her debut album turns 20, a milestone she marked in the same speech.
