Thai VG and his wife are looking into applying for Vietnamese citizenship, according to a Threads post reported by Tuoi Tre Online on September 9. The rapper said the family hoped to pursue the process in late 2026 or the following year and wanted information about the requirements.
His post expresses an intention, rather than announcing that citizenship has been granted. It drew numerous responses, including suggestions that he seek advice from footballers who have been naturalised. Other users responded with light-hearted comments about his Vietnamese-language skills.
Born in the United States in 1983, Thai VG became known through Vietnamese Gang and later served as a coach on Rap Viet. More recently, he joined Anh trai vuot ngan chong gai, taking on singing, dancing and performances beyond his usual rap work.
His exchanges in Vietnamese with fellow participants have attracted attention on the programme. In earlier remarks about living in the shared house, recalled by the report, he spoke about new friendships and a stronger sense of connection after working alongside the group. The citizenship plans add a personal dimension to that growing involvement in Vietnam's entertainment scene.
