VFF announced on September 21 that centre-back Nguyễn Thành Chung will miss the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup because he has not recovered from an existing injury. Coach Kim Sang Sik has called up midfielder Ngô Đăng Khoa.

Adding a midfielder does not establish who will take Thành Chung’s place in defence. The announcement does not specify a starting lineup for the September 26 meeting with the Philippines.

VFF’s stated plan is for the squad to assemble on September 22 and travel to Indonesia the following morning. The announcement updates the initial September 18 squad list. Follow Vietnam team news and fixtures.
