Tottenham secured their first Premier League victory of the 2026-27 season by beating Coventry 3-1. The match also brought Dejan Kulusevski's return after 526 days out with a kneecap injury.
Spurs were almost behind within 11 seconds, when Kinsky saved Thomas-Asante's narrow-angle attempt. They took the lead in the 14th minute through James Maddison.
Spurs respond after the equaliser
Maddison, selected to start by Roberto De Zerbi, let the ball run to deceive an opponent before striking first-time into the top corner beyond Rushworth.
Frank Lampard's Coventry equalised early in the second half through Rudoni. Tottenham pushed forward again and restored their advantage in the 58th minute through Omar Marmoush.
The hosts still needed to protect a narrow lead as the game entered its final stages.
Kulusevski welcomed back
Kulusevski entered in the 87th minute to loud applause, with supporters also greeting his first two touches. Ben Davies then scored in stoppage time, despite not making clean contact with his shot, to complete the 3-1 result.
It was Tottenham's first win after seven league matches and only their fourth home victory since Kulusevski and Maddison suffered injuries in May 2025, according to the report.
Spurs stand 16th with six points, one place above Coventry. The result offers De Zerbi both a first league success of the campaign and the additional encouragement of Kulusevski's return, while leaving further work after a difficult start.
