Tran Thi Cam Tu won silver in the women's under-59kg kumite event at the 2026 world youth and U21 karate championships in Poland.
BongdaPlus reported that the 17-year-old lost 6-0 to France's Morgane Scarfone in the final on October 17.
Five wins to reach the final
Cam Tu defeated Belgium's Emilie Poskin 6-2, Chinese Taipei's Wu Hung Hua 3-2 and Switzerland's Noemi Emma Muehlemann 3-1.
She then beat Montenegro's Katarina Djukic 10-2.
Her semi-final against Colombia's Maria Jose Rave Rendon ended 0-0 in regulation. Cam Tu advanced through the judges' Hantei decision.
Scarfone controlled the final more effectively and took the gold, leaving the Vietnamese athlete with silver in a field of 57 competitors.
Building on youth results
The source recalls Cam Tu's 2025 Asian youth gold in the under-59kg category for ages 16-17.
She also won a 2026 national youth title in Thanh Hoa, although that domestic result was in the under-56kg category.
Those achievements belong to youth competition and should be distinguished from a senior world title.
The Poland championships ran from October 14 to 18 and involved more than 2,000 athletes from 114 countries and territories, according to the report. Vietnam entered nine competitors.
The silver adds a clear international result and further experience for Cam Tu, born in 2009, after a five-match route to the final.
