Trey Nyoni has scored his first Liverpool goal and become the club's second-youngest scorer in the Champions League proper. Liverpool FC reports that his first-half volley away at Fenerbahce came at 19 years and 127 days.

The record concerns Liverpool players in the main competition, with qualifying matches excluded from the club's list.

Alexander-Arnold remains youngest

Trent Alexander-Arnold leads that list at 19 years and ten days. He scored Liverpool's seventh goal in a 7-0 group-stage victory against Maribor in October 2017.

Nyoni now follows him. Harvey Elliott is next at 19 years and 191 days, followed by David Ngog at 19 years and 252 days, and Curtis Jones at 19 years and 306 days.

The comparison places Nyoni among Liverpool players who made a Champions League scoring contribution before turning 20, while the same finish opened his senior account for the club.

A separate first-goal milestone

Liverpool also identifies Nyoni as its youngest player to score his first club goal in the European Cup. On that measure, he surpasses Ngog's achievement at PSV Eindhoven in December 2008, when the French forward was 19 years and 252 days old.

The two distinctions measure different things: age when scoring in the Champions League and age when a first Liverpool goal comes in European competition.

Liverpool's pre-match team announcement included Nyoni in the starting line-up alongside Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister. His volley converted that selection into a personal milestone as he continues developing within the senior squad.
