The press centre for Vietnam’s tenth National Sports Games opened on the morning of 6 November at the VOH–HTV building in Ho Chi Minh City. After the ribbon-cutting, officials toured the working space and technical facilities for journalists, Tuổi Trẻ reported.

Before the ceremony, organisers and guests paid tribute at a memorial in the VOH grounds to the commando unit that attacked Saigon Radio in 1968. The opening also included drumming and a lion dance.

Three priorities for coverage

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoàng Đạo Cương, who heads the Games organising committee, emphasised the media’s role in conveying the event and its sporting values to the public.

He asked organisers to put convenient and safe working conditions for reporters and editors first, and to connect the centre with competition venues and specialist committees so that information can flow continuously.

His other priorities were the use of digital technology, data and multimedia platforms, and coverage of athletes, coaches and the people supporting the Games. These were requests made at the opening, rather than a finding that every service condition had already been completed.

Hosting and support

Trần Thế Thuận, director of the city’s culture and sports department, said service quality and coordination among agencies were central to the hosting effort, according to Tuổi Trẻ. The newspaper described transport and cultural-visit support measures being introduced by the city.

The Games are scheduled for 14 November to 12 December in Ho Chi Minh City, with 973 events across 48 sports. The opening ceremony is planned for 21 November at the Saigon riverside park. Table tennis, marathon and muay had completed their programmes before the opening, the 6 November report said.
