Vietnam have refreshed their squad for the Casper Cup with newcomers and younger players, the VFF announced on November 3. Defender Luong Chi Khai, also known as Kyle Colonna, receives his first call-up, while forward Olaha Manh Duc is another notable inclusion.

New options and returning internationals

Colonna plays for The Cong - Viettel and Olaha for Cong an TP.HCM. Their selection creates an opportunity for assessment, rather than confirming starting places or playing time.

Goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang retains the coaches' confidence, with Nguyen Thanh Chung and Nguyen Van Vi returning. The announcement also highlighted Nguyen Hai Long, Truong Tien Anh and Nguyen Dinh Bac.

Several familiar players are absent, including Nguyen Hoang Duc, Nguyen Quang Hai, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh, Doan Van Hau and Pham Xuan Manh. The federation linked the changes to workload management and developing squad depth.

Younger players face an assessment opportunity

The younger group includes Tran Trung Kien, Nguyen Nhat Minh, Pham Ly Duc, Nguyen Thai Quoc Cuong, Pham Minh Phuc, Tran Ngoc Son and Nguyen Quang Vinh. Nguyen Le Phat, Nguyen Thanh Nhan and Nguyen Van Tung provide further attacking options.

Van Tung returns after an extended absence and previously scored for Vietnam at the 2022 U23 Asian Cup. That experience is background rather than proof of his role in the new selection.

The next step is to test adaptation and combinations during preparations and the Casper Cup. Readers can follow Vietnam national team fixtures as the coaching staff assess which options fit their plans.
