TVB has begun filming a vertical short-form spin-off of War and Beauty through a partnership with Hongguo. Tuoi Tre, citing Singtao on October 17, reported the announcement and Hengdian launch ceremony held the previous day.

The project develops the established franchise rather than reuniting the complete original cast or representing a finished series already released.

Moses Chan returns

Moses Chan is reprising Hung Mo, returning to Qing-era costume twenty-two years after the role's original appearance. He described familiarity with the character alongside new challenges from short-form pacing and presentation.

The cast also includes established TVB performers and actors from mainland China's short-drama market. Trieu Tich Tich and Nguyen Hao Tong take the leading roles, with additional younger performers joining the production.

Familiar music and recreated scenes at the launch recalled the earlier drama. Those moments belonged to the production ceremony rather than a completed broadcast.

Expectations and divided reactions

TVB representative Van Vy Hong said the team intended to maintain traditional drama production standards despite the shorter running time and vertical format.

Some online responses expressed concern about the classic's reputation and the use of veteran actors. Others regarded the move as adaptation to changing viewing habits.

Those comments do not establish a unanimous audience judgement, particularly while filming continues. The confirmed developments are the partnership, announced performers and production start. A complete assessment of the work must await its eventual release.
