Why some overseas Vietnamese players are absent from Asian Games squad
Injuries, selection assessments and registration timing explain the absence of several overseas-born players from Vietnam's under-23 Asian Games team, according to VnExpress. The report identifies separate circumstances rather than a policy excluding such players.
Le Viktor, Tran Thanh Trung and Ngo Dang Khoa have fitness issues. Lee Williams obtained Vietnamese citizenship after the submission deadline, while Nguyen Vadim did not meet the coaches' selection assessment.
Vietnam is also foregoing over-age places to prioritize younger players. The team faces Kuwait, the Philippines and Uzbekistan in Group C.
