Vietnam opened the 2026 Chess Olympiad with 4-0 victories over Lesotho in the open section and Saudi Arabia in the women’s section in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, VnExpress reported.
The open team is competing without Lê Quang Liêm, Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn and Lê Tuấn Minh, while Phạm Lê Thảo Nguyên sat out the women’s opening round. The tournament runs from September 16 to 27 over 11 rounds. Vietnam are seeded 47th in the open section and 21st in the women’s.
