Standing Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc and Japanese Ambassador Ito Naoki discussed cooperation in energy, technology, strategic minerals and workforce development, the Government News reported. Vietnam emphasised mutual interests and investment linked to technology transfer and stronger domestic capability.

Energy proposals move through review

Ito expressed interest in facilitating Japanese participation in strategic minerals, energy, science, innovation and training. Phạm Gia Túc welcomed the proposals and called for faster, more effective cooperation between companies.

He said ministries had been instructed to examine obstacles affecting gas-power projects involving Japanese businesses, including Thái Bình LNG and Ô Môn II. He also encouraged renewable-energy investment consistent with the law and both sides’ interests.

For a proposed strategic energy-reserve facility under the Powerr ASIA initiative, the Industry and Trade Ministry was asked to study the idea and respond to Japan. That is a review step rather than approval of construction or a signed project contract.

Technology transfer and implementation

The deputy prime minister identified science, innovation and digital transformation as important growth drivers. Vietnam seeks investment connected with technology transfer, localisation and high-quality human resources.

The parties also discussed culture, tourism and intellectual-property protection. Vietnam said it was addressing online copyright violations and would continue enforcement.

The next specific tasks are the ministries’ work on gas-power obstacles and the response on strategic energy storage. Turning these cooperation proposals into operational projects depends on further examination and authorised implementation, beyond expressions of interest at the meeting.
