Vinh Long announced a conservation and restoration plan for Nguyen Dinh Chieu's tomb and memorial in Ba Tri on October 17. Bao Van Hoa reports that the culture ministry approved the plan on September 16.
The conference introduces the programme and prepares implementation rather than marking completed construction. Its aims combine heritage protection, management and cultural tourism.
Different planning areas
The study area exceeds 35 hectares, including the memorial, the former home site and related local heritage. The tomb and memorial themselves cover over 4.15 hectares, while the former family-home foundation measures 68.6 square metres.
Those figures describe different boundaries; the entire study area is not the burial site.
Proposed facilities include worship and exhibition spaces, visitor reception, traditional-medicine activities, a lotus pond, medicinal gardens and southern performing arts. Designs are intended to respect original features and local materials.
Implementation still ahead
Provincial vice-chair Nguyen Thi Be Muoi highlighted historical, educational and tourism value. The site has held special national monument status since 2016.
The report identifies deterioration in the 1972 temple and limitations in later facilities and available space. The plan seeks to address those needs.
Authorities have requested document review, boundary marking and realistic schedules for component projects, alongside community communication.
Restoration outcomes and tourism services will depend on that subsequent work. The announcement establishes the plan and its scope, not the opening of completed new facilities.
