The VN-Index closed November 3 at 1,699, down 11 points on the day and 67 points over four consecutive declines. VnExpress reported that the index reached a two-week low while turnover fell below VND13 trillion, its lowest level in roughly half a month.
Breadth improves despite the headline decline
More than 150 HoSE stocks rose, outnumbering decliners. In the large-cap basket, 14 closed above reference prices and 11 fell. The index’s direction therefore differed from that of many individual shares.
VIC dropped 3.3% and subtracted more than 13 index points, the largest negative contribution of the session. It had supported the index in previous sessions. VnExpress cited MB Securities’ assessment of a divergence between the index and the experience of many stocks.
That weighting effect helps explain how a lower headline index can coexist with improving breadth.
Sectors and flows in the completed session
OCB rose 4.4% to VND10,600, while MSB, STB and VIB gained more than 2%. VPB fell 1.6% to VND21,200. Securities stocks including VCI, HCM, SSI, TCX and VCK closed above reference levels.
Steel shares advanced together, led by HPG’s 4.2% gain; HSG rose almost 4% to VND10,700. Foreign investors extended net selling to an eighth session, concentrated most heavily in MBBank. Subsequent sessions will show whether better breadth is accompanied by stronger turnover and how heavyweight shares continue influencing the index. The quoted prices belong to November 3, not an established November 4 result.
