Zendaya has joined an untitled science-fiction film that Alex Garland will write and direct for A24. Variety reported on October 15 that filming is planned for 2027, while story details remain under wraps.
Another collaboration with A24
The announcement establishes Zendaya's involvement and Garland's creative roles. It does not provide a theatrical release date, character details or a synopsis, so the planned production year should be distinguished from an eventual release schedule.
The project follows Zendaya's A24 collaborations on Euphoria and The Drama. Variety reported that The Drama, co-starring Robert Pattinson, earned almost US$135 million worldwide.
Her other 2026 projects mentioned in the report include The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Dune: Part Three. The new film extends her science-fiction work beyond the Dune setting.
Garland's ongoing production commitments
Garland's relationship with A24 includes Ex Machina, Civil War, Men and Warfare. The company is also behind his adaptation of the video game Elden Ring.
According to the report, Elden Ring finished shooting on July 30 and is scheduled for March 2028. Its cast includes Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman and Tom Burke.
Garland's broader science-fiction work also includes Annihilation and the series Devs, providing context for his return to the genre.
Variety additionally cited Danny Boyle as saying a script for another 28 Years Later film exists, although that production is currently on the back burner amid Garland's other commitments. The report does not establish that it has been cancelled or assign a revised production date.
