Vietnam are due to gather on 9 November for the 2026 Casper Cup with 13 under-23 players in a 27-man squad. Ten of those younger players were part of the team that finished third at the Asian U23 tournament in Saudi Arabia earlier this year, Tuổi Trẻ reported.
The senior side are scheduled to meet Chinese Taipei on 11 November and Kyrgyzstan on 17 November at Thiên Trường Stadium in Ninh Bình. The friendlies give the coaching staff an opportunity to assess several options across the squad.
Players from the Asian U23 campaign
Seven members of the third-place squad appeared in the play-off against South Korea, which Vietnam won on penalties, according to Tuổi Trẻ. They are Nhật Minh, Đức Anh, Minh Phúc, Nguyễn Thái Quốc Cường, Khuất Văn Khang, Thanh Nhàn and Đình Bắc. Goalkeeper Trung Kiên, Lý Đức and Lê Phát complete the group of ten.
The other three U23 players called up are Trần Ngọc Sơn, Nguyễn Đăng Dương and Nguyễn Quang Vinh. Ngọc Sơn was previously selected for a senior gathering in June 2024. Quang Vinh recently reached the Asian Games quarter-finals with the U23 team, while Đăng Dương had been involved with the age-group side without making a final squad for an official tournament, the newspaper said.
Options across the team
Tuổi Trẻ reported that Ngọc Sơn and Lê Phát had each scored three goals in the 2026–27 V.League. Quang Vinh also had three for Sông Lam Nghệ An, while midfielder Quốc Cường plays for Công an TP.HCM. In defence, Lý Đức and Nhật Minh have senior-team experience and Đức Anh has received his first call-up.
The newspaper’s assessments of individual roles are its own; the coaching staff will decide the matchday selections. See Vietnam national team fixtures.
