Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the developer of Long Thanh International Airport, reduced its workforce by 1,360 people in the third quarter, according to its latest financial statements reported by VnExpress. Nearly 3,700 employees have left since the start of the year, taking headcount from more than 10,800 to just over 7,110 at the end of September, or about 6,970 excluding subsidiaries.
Three straight quarters of cuts
This is the third consecutive quarterly reduction. The shrinkage follows a management restructuring: ACV's annual report, released in April, said it now has 12 departments reporting to the board and executive management, down from 17. Further streamlining tops the company's corporate governance agenda for the year.
KBVN+ outlines the key points from VnExpress data:
| Date | Development |
|---|---|
| Start of 2026 | More than 10,800 staff, 17 departments |
| April 2026 | Annual report: 12 departments |
| Q3 2026 | 1,360 staff cut, third straight quarterly reduction |
| End of September 2026 | Just over 7,110 staff (about 6,970 excluding subsidiaries) |
| 00:00 on 24 December 2026 | Long Thanh airport scheduled to open |
Lower costs, profit ahead of plan
ACV paid more than 2,630 billion dong to employees in the first nine months, about 400 billion dong less than a year earlier. Staff costs, once its largest expense, now rank second after depreciation.
Nine-month revenue was more than 19,220 billion dong, flat on the year, with almost half from passenger services. Pre-tax profit of nearly 10,800 billion dong was slightly lower but already well above the full-year target. For 2026, ACV planned revenue of 21,141 billion dong, up 2%, and pre-tax profit of 7,011 billion dong, its lowest since 2021, as depreciation, operating, maintenance and interest costs rise with major projects. Total assets topped 96,000 billion dong at the end of September, including more than 21,000 billion dong of undistributed profit.
Long Thanh nears opening
Phase 1 construction costs at Long Thanh reached about 44,130 billion dong by the end of September, up nearly 10,000 billion dong since January. The airport is scheduled to start operating at 00:00 (0h) on 24 December with about 366 flights a week, 322 of them domestic, a key milestone for travellers in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai.
What comes next
ACV says it will tightly control hiring, restructure its workforce, build specialist teams in key areas and design pay and benefits to retain talent. How it balances a leaner organisation with staffing needs once Long Thanh opens on 24 December will be closely watched.
