Rising and falling

Thanh Niên rated Binh chủng Thông tin the best team of the second phase. Fourth after phase one, coach Phạm Văn Long's side won six of seven in phase two to finish second. Báo Văn Hóa said they were still fourth before the last round, behind Hà Nội on wins, until Hà Nội's 1-3 defeat by Geleximco Hưng Yên opened the door. The soldiers then beat VTV Bình Điền Long An 3-0, taking the second set 25-17 and the third 26-24 after the champions had moved ahead. That followed the win that earned them the last semi-final place.

Hà Nội went the other way. Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt's team won all seven matches in phase one, then lost five in phase two, including to bottom side Hưng Yên, Thanh Niên reported. Tuổi Trẻ called them the biggest disappointment of the group stage, with five defeats in their last six. Kiệt told Thanh Niên that the team had been without leading hitter Vi Thị Như Quỳnh for health reasons in the second phase and that several key players were out of form. He also named Binh chủng Thông tin as the most dangerous team in the title race.

Who has what

  • HCĐG Lào Cai (coach Nguyễn Hữu Hà): won six of seven in phase two, with middle blocker Trần Thị Bích Thủy and Thai imports Kuttika Kaewpin and Tichaya Boonlert, Thanh Niên said.
  • Hà Nội Tasco Auto: Kiệt said libero Nguyễn Khánh Đang and Serbian hitter Brankica Mihajlovic were the only consistent performers. SGGP said the team must improve its coordination, reception and attack.
  • Binh chủng Thông tin: opposite Hoàng Thị Kiều Trinh, setter Đoàn Thị Lâm Oanh and American import Temi Thomas-Ailara were singled out by Thanh Niên.
  • VTV Bình Điền Long An (coach Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Hoa): without Trần Thị Thanh Thúy, who is playing in Japan, but with Nguyễn Thị Trà My, Lê Như Anh, Võ Thị Kim Thoa and American Jess Mruzik. SGGP said they need to adjust their attack and cut reception errors.

Relegation group

The bottom four now play to stay up. According to Tuổi Trẻ, LPBank Ninh Bình face Geleximco Hưng Yên and XMLS Thanh Hóa meet VietinBank. The winners go into a classification match, while the losers meet in a so-called reverse final, and the team that loses that match is relegated. Thanh Niên rated Hưng Yên the side most at risk.
