Vietnam’s climate-technology startups raised $49.86 million in 33 deals during 2025, down 52% from $104.20 million across 60 deals in 2024, according to an ecosystem report covered by VnExpress on 3 November.

New Energy Nexus Vietnam, SNV Vietnam, WUSC and RMIT University Vietnam produced the study. Its researchers highlighted the effect of Techcoop’s $70 million Series A investment in the 2024 comparison base.

Deal size changes the comparison

Excluding the largest deals, funding declined from $34.2 million to $27.86 million, a reported drop of 19%. That alternative comparison shows how large individual investments influence the headline annual total.

Energy transition attracted the most funding in 2025, at $26.71 million, up 72%. It was also the only category in the study to receive equity, debt and grant funding.

The financing mix shifted as equity fell and lending rose from $3 million to $20 million. The study recorded no completed 2025 deal in the $350,000 to $1 million range, compared with four in 2024.

Hiring needs accompany financing gaps

Among surveyed businesses, 73% placed specialised professional and technical skills among their three most urgent recruitment needs. Half identified those workers as the hardest to find. The percentages describe respondents to the survey.

SNV Vietnam energy lead Lindsay Umalla said the workforce needed to catch up with capital flows. She advocated experienced, interdisciplinary staff and closer connections between training, recruitment and financing. Those proposals set out the report contributor’s suggested next steps for developing the ecosystem alongside its funding capacity.
