Blue Eye Samurai will return for its second season on January 19, 2027, Netflix has announced. Variety reports that the date falls more than three years after the adult animated show's November 2023 debut.
A story expanding beyond Japan
The official synopsis places Mizu in London, continuing her quest amid new allies, old adversaries and personal struggles. Akemi and Taigen remain in Japan around Edo Castle under a new shogun, while Ringo searches for another purpose.
The outline establishes separate settings without revealing how the characters' stories will resolve.
Maya Erskine returns as Mizu alongside Brenda Song, Darren Barnet and Masi Oka. Jonathan Pryce, Joel Kim Booster and Sherry Cola are also named among the second season's voice cast.
The first season's voice ensemble also included Kenneth Branagh, George Takei, Randall Park, Stephanie Hsu and Ming-Na Wen. The new season's cast follows the group that helped establish the series in 2023.
The production and longer-term plan
Creators Michael Green and Amber Noizumi remain writers and executive producers. Erwin Stoff also executive produces; Jane Wu is supervising director and producer, with Blue Spirit serving as animation studio.
The first season won four Creative Arts Emmys in 2024, including outstanding animated programme.
The next milestone is the announced January premiere. A third season has already been ordered as the final one and is planned for 2028, without a specific date.
