South Korean culture minister Chae Hwi-young defended creative freedom during an October 7 parliamentary audit addressing controversy over The Assassin(s), Yonhap reports. He said the government does not intervene in artistic content and declined to rule on whether the film distorted history. He also opposed threats against its creators. The dispute concerns the film's fictional treatment of a 1974 assassination attempt; its narrative should not be presented as a newly established account of historical events.
