Recognition at the October 20 ceremony
Cần Thơ held a review of its tenth city sports festival on the morning of October 20 and honoured sepak takraw coaches and athletes for their performances at the 20th Asian Games in Japan. The new event is the local recognition ceremony; the medals were won earlier.
Lê Thị Hồng Liên received a commendation for women's doubles gold and total prize money of 157 million dong. Phạm Quốc Thịnh was recognised for bronze in the men's three-player team event, with total prize money of 62 million dong. These are separate awards, not a combined amount paid to each athlete.
Coach Nguyễn Thị Diễm Kiều also received a commendation for her work developing Hồng Liên locally. The report does not specify an accompanying cash award for the coach.
City festival and longer-term priorities
Deputy city chair Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Điệp said the local sports festival involved thousands of athletes and coaches across 20 sports and 252 events. She credited departments, authorities in 103 communes and wards, officials and participants for organising the programme.
The city called for broader community participation, improved sports facilities and clubs, and more focused investment in strong disciplines and sports on the Asian Games and Olympic programmes. It also encouraged businesses to support city teams over the long term.
Additional commendations went to groups and individuals involved in organising the festival at commune and city levels. These organisational awards are separate from the individual sepak takraw achievements and their stated prize amounts.
